BOGO Presentation Topics!

Topic #1: Single Sign on with Active Directory Federation in Office 365/SharePoint Online

In this presentation we would like to share our knowledge and experiences with bringing an Office 365 site up and running with Active Directory synchronization and Federation for the true single sign on experience from within an organizations internal network.

Presented By: Amit Chachra, Principal Lead Consultant at Magenic Consulting and Allen Yu, Senior Systems Engineer with an Insurance Ratings Bureau in San Francisco.

Topic #2: End to End Solution Using SharePoint, InfoPath, SharePoint Designer & Reporting Services

A client had someone build an Opportunity Management solution in Access 2007.  When they wanted to upgrade to a web based solution SharePoint beat out Dynamics CRM & Salesforce as the solution platform.  We will take a look at what the solution looks like and why a platform like SharePoint can be used to provide an end to end solution.

Presented By: Vanessa Toves, Solution Architect, Owner at Shiftlogik

October 2013 Meeting Topics

October 2013 Meeting Topics

This month we’re going to try something a little different. We’ve gathered a handful of short, quick solutions to demonstrate and discuss, covering topics for SharePoint end users, administrators, and developers. We will also be showing an interesting solution by Capriza to create and deploy HTML5 mobile apps for customized SharePoint applications in minutes.

Register today: http://sfspugoct13.eventbrite.com/

Some of the solutions we will demonstrate and discuss are:

End-Users:
How to create color-coded calendar entries without code
How to hide unwanted fields on calendar items

Developers:
How to build a custom web part connection with the built-in SharePoint list view web part

Administrators:
How to change the source list for a lookup column using SharePoint Manager
How to add a link to a document’s properties page for SharePoint Search results

And we will have time for questions for other SharePoint solution ideas you may want to ask about.

Presenters:
Alisha Harold, Magenic
Caitlin Young, First Republic Bank
Elaine Zelby, Capriza
Chris Romp, R3 Interworks

October 2013 Meeting – Call for Content!

This is Chris Romp from your San Francisco SharePoint User Group board.  Unfortunately our speaker scheduled for October has had a scheduling conflict arise, so I wanted to try something different this month.

Is there something in SharePoint you wish could just work a little bit better? Or a way of presenting information that you haven’t gotten quite figured out yet? Or any other kind of problem/question you’d like to have discussed? Send me your ideas at chris.romp [at] r3interworks [dot] com, (or “tweet” them to @SFSPUG) and I’ll pick a handful to demonstrate or discuss at this month’s meeting along with other SFSPUG members. They can be any level of complexity, and on any SharePoint-related topic — administration, customization, configuration, security, development, etc. — for SharePoint 2010, 2013, and Office 365.

Even better, if you’ve solved a problem in a cool way, why not come and present your solution to the group yourself? If you’ve ever wanted to present at SFSPUG this is an easy way to get started… I’m looking for a handful of 10-15 minute solutions to demonstrate, so no need to work up a 90-minute presentation. If you need a test SharePoint environment let me know and I can get you set up with one to use.

Deadline for submissions: This Friday, October 4th.

If this works out, I’d like to start doing one problem/solution type of demonstration at the beginning of every month’s meeting.  So this is the experiment, and if it’s something you’d like to see us do it’s up to you to help make it work.  So, let’s hear those ideas!

August 2013 – No Meeting

Yikes! It looks like this past month has completely gotten away from all of us on the SFSPUG board. We were originally planning to post a happy hour location, but that hasn’t happened. If any of you still want to get together you definitely should. Feel free to plan something with your fellow SFSPUG members on the LinkedIn group page.

We’ll see you all next month at Microsoft. The meeting will be on Thursday, September 12.

Topic:  Learn how SharePoint 2013 Has Already Made You the Search Expert in Your Organization
Up until the SharePoint 2013 release, advanced search tuning and configuration were strictly the domain of search experts. After all, writing nested FQL expressions, customizing rank profiles with PowerShell, writing XSLT to customize search results, wiring up dictionaries for entity extraction, etc. are not for the faint of heart. Though you’ve likely heard many things about Microsoft’s investment in Search with this release, the most important is that they have made many of the most advanced and powerful features, heretofore reserved for search experts, accessible to everyone.

In this session Paul Olenick (SharePoint MVP and Microsoft V-TSP) will provide an intro and practical guide to using some of the more powerful Search features in SharePoint 2013 and, for illustration, will show how search engineers used to accomplish the same things before this release.

Attendees will leave with an understanding of SharePoint 2013’s powerful features for configuring search, giving them confidence to take search results in their organization beyond the status quo, without the need for a highly specialized skillset.

Speaker:
Paul Olenick
Strategic Consultant, AvePoint
Microsoft SharePoint MVP, VTSP
