Presentation: The Intranet Reloaded – Not your grandma’s old Intranet

The Intranet was long been viewed as a basic portal to share news and information about the business and possibly keep link to a few documents.

More recently, a different train on thought has flipped this idea on its head and challenged us to think about using the concept of the Intranet as a focal point for digital content to deliver a more managed and integrated workplace experience.

Shailen will present on just such a journey that a client has taken with their Intranet site to reach a higher maturity model by leveraging the Intranet as a platform for integrating News, Notifications, Videos, Payslips, Search, Rostering, Careers, Targeting, Multi-device support, Documents and People Search and all of this in just the first release with plans to build a lot more functionality on top.

Topics presented in this talk will include:

  • The Digital Workplace Maturity Model
  • Office 365
  • Azure
  • ADFS
  • Taxonomy
  • SharePoint Add-Ins (formerly Apps)
  • Thinking of Performance as a feature
  • Differences between an Intranet and a Digital Workplace

Presenter: Shailen Sukul

Shailen is a SharePoint/Office 365 Consultant, Azure Architect, SCRUM Master and Evangelist and has worked for clients in the US and Australia on technologies in SharePoint and Azure.

When not working with SharePoint/Azure, he likes to tinker with Kiosks for his Startup in his spare time.

He currently lives in Melbourne, Australia with his wife and 4 year old boy, but also commutes to California for work occasionally.
